Second Sunday
Second Sunday Church Collections Program
The Sharehouse
gives away personal hygiene items as well: Soap, shampoo, razors, diapers,
laundry detergent, and cleaning supplies. These items are collected by
Seattle-area churches on the second Sunday of each month. Collected goods
are either delivered to The Sharehouse or picked up by volunteers.
Why do we do this? To a homeless family that has found a place to live,
a few dollars can make the difference between eviction and staying in
permanent housing. The
Sharehouse gives away packets of hygiene items to over 35 families per
week. For each month's Second Sunday offering, we request a particular
donation(s), but we are glad to collect any of these items at any time:

Six things you can do to start a Second Sunday drive:
- Spread the word about the drive to your members.
- Call your local dentist and ask if he/she will donate extra sample supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss) to Sharehouse families.
- Organize a drive through your church by inserting copies of the Second Sunday drive calendar into church, setting out collection bins, and giving us a call when items are ready to be picked up (this is a great project for youth groups!)
- Ask the manager of your neighborhood drug store to consider donating their surplus or un-sellable health and care items to Sharehouse.
- Contact local schools that you believe would like to participate in a drive on behalf of other needy children, or speak with the principal or PTA group of your child's school about the possibility of doing a drive.
- Call 206-767-5280 to arrange for a Sharehouse staff member to speak to your church or social organization as a kick-off of your church or organization's drive. Tours of The Sharehouse are also available!
